Where the Spirit of the Lord is, There is Freedom
The absolute Truth of Scripture declares that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Yet, walking in that freedom requires spiritual vigilance, especially when we encounter situations that would have easily tempted us to sin in the past.
Imagine running into a highly attractive person. In the flesh, arousal can flare up, and suddenly your thoughts start racing: “Could this be the one? Did God really want me to stay with the person I am already happy with?” These thoughts are not innocent musings; they are calculated spiritual attacks.
We live in a world ruled by an enemy who is neither omnipresent nor all-powerful. Because he lacks absolute power, the devil actually has to strive. He operates through a network of demonic minions that seek to infest people, baiting them into sin so they can literally feed off the resulting destruction.
When those racing, deceptive thoughts hit your mind, it is the enemy attempting to introduce chaos into your God-given peace.
Temptation is the mark of the enemy, but it is also a powerful diagnostic tool. When you feel that pull toward sin, it immediately highlights two things: it points out where a stronghold or vulnerability still exists within you, and it often reveals the spiritual bondage present within the other person, whether they are a believer or a non-believer.
Instead of letting temptation draw you into the dark, you can use it as a spotlight to see exactly where the enemy is operating.
When you are fully aligned with the Holy Spirit and have given Jesus absolute authority over your entire existence, something profound happens. You stop being the prey and start acting as a vessel of His light.
Instead of entertaining the lust or the doubt, you flip the script and minister to them. You might pray silently for whatever they are going through, or pray against the sin you sense operating in them. The miracle here is that when you actively resist the devil by shifting your focus to prayer and ministry, you reinforce your spiritual barrier. Your armor in the spirit gets stronger.
Think of it like "leveling up" in a video game. Every time you choose the absolute Truth over the enemy's bait, you gain spiritual endurance, authority, and strength. (More on the topic of leveling up in the Spirit in the future.)
The Thought Audit: When attractive distractions or sudden doubts about your current relationships arise, do you entertain them, or do you immediately recognize them as the striving tactics of the enemy?
The Diagnostic Check: What is a recent temptation telling you about a stronghold that may still need healing and reinforcement in your own life?
The Pivot to Ministry: The next time you are tempted, will you make the active choice to "level up" by immediately praying for the spiritual condition of the person involved?
Father, i thank you that where your Spirit is, there is absolute freedom. forgive me for the times i have entertained the deceptive, racing thoughts planted by an enemy who seeks to feed on my sin. give me the discernment to recognize temptation not just as a trap, but as a diagnostic tool to expose the strongholds in my own flesh and the spiritual needs of others. when the enemy tries to bait me, give me the immediate reflex to pivot into prayer and ministry. i give you full authority over my entire existence, Jesus. strengthen my armor today, help me to resist the devil so that he must flee, and prepare me for the next level of spiritual maturity you have for me. in Jesus' name, amen.
