The Boundary Line
"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
— Luke 10:19
"The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance."
— Psalm 16:5-6
When we realize that Jesus gave ordinary disciples the authority to tread on the enemy, a vital question instantly follows: If I start resisting the devil and driving out strongholds, will he retaliate against me or my family?
This fear keeps thousands of believers paralyzed in a state of passive compromise. They settle for a partial deliverance because they are afraid that if they go "all in," the enemy will make their lives a living hell.
But look closely at the second half of Jesus' promise in Luke 10:19: "...and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
This is not a poetic exaggeration; it is a spiritual decree. When you act in obedience to the Word of God, you are not stepping out into an unprotected war zone. You are stepping out under the shadow of the Almighty. The text uses the Greek word adikéō for "hurt," which means to do wrong to, to violate, or to break a legal boundary. Jesus is telling you that the enemy cannot cross the boundary line of His protection to bring structural, spiritual ruin to your life when you are walking in discipleship.
In ancient Israel, a landmark or boundary line determined exactly where a person's property ended and another's began. In the spirit, the blood of Jesus Christ is your ultimate boundary line.
The enemy is a legalist. He knows he cannot just cross a blood-bought boundary line whenever he feels like it. In Job 1:10, Satan himself complained to God about this exact reality, saying, "Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side?"
The only way the enemy can touch that hedge is if we give him a legal invite through hidden sin, unconfessed rebellion, or agreements with fear.
When you stand up in your delegated authority to break an addiction or a generational curse, the enemy will always rattle your cage. He will generate noise, inject fearful thoughts, and try to make you feel unsafe. But it is nothing more than a barking dog behind a massive steel fence. He can bark, but he cannot bite unless you open the gate.
Your discipleship walk means trusting The Truth over the noise. The same King who gave you the power to tread is the King who maintains your lot and guards your boundary lines.
To evict the spirit of fear and enforce your boundaries today, study these scriptures:
Psalm 91:9-10 – "Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;"
Proverbs 26:2 – "Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight."
2 Thessalonians 3:3 – "But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one."
Lord God Almighty, I thank You that You are my fortress and my shield. I praise You that the lines have fallen to me in pleasant places and that You maintain my lot. Today, I cast down every fear of the enemy's retaliation. I declare that my life, my mind, my body, and my family are sealed under the blood of Jesus Christ. I enforce the boundary line of the cross against every demonic assignment. You have given me authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and Your Word declares that nothing shall by any means hurt me. I stand secure in that promise. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, Amen.
