What Is the Meaning of Life? The Divine Harvest
What is the meaning of life? At its core, the answer is remarkably simple: it is to enter into a living relationship with Jesus Christ so we can exist with Him in heaven in the most amazingly abundant, perfect love that exists.
God never needed us, and He still doesn't. He is complete, self-sustaining, and eternal. That makes the reality of His choice even more breathtaking: He chose to create us, and He genuinely delights in a personal relationship with us. He acts like a loving father who teaches, guides, and builds His child over time in ways we both consciously understand and mysteriously do not.
Think of a farmer carefully tending to his fields. He tests the crop to see if it is ready, meticulously weeding around it, and making sure there is just enough light, just enough water, and precisely enough nutrition in the soil for each plant to grow into exactly what He designed it to be.
For some of us, He grows corn; for others, celery. We all have unique designs, distinct purposes, and specific parts to play in His creation.
But what happens if a plant resists? If a plant rejects the light, the water, or the nutrition—which represent the Word, fellowship, and the indwelling Holy Spirit—it cannot mature. It cannot be harvested.
Thankfully, our God is extraordinarily patient. He knows our exact design, and He knows precisely what we need, exactly when we need it.
When you put your trust in Jesus, your life doesn't suddenly become free of trouble. The great pivot is this: no problem will ever be too great again. The storms of this world will not be able to break you, because “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
Accepting Your Unique Design: Are you trying to force yourself to grow like someone else's crop, or are you resting in the unique purpose the Master Farmer designed for you?
Receiving the Nourishment: Are you resisting the light, water, and spiritual nutrition of God's Word and the Holy Spirit, or are you letting Him weed out the distractions in your heart?
The Greater Power: When troubles hit, do you look at the size of your problems, or do you anchor your confidence in the One who lives inside you?
Father, thank you for the absolute Truth of your Word and the profound simplicity of the meaning of life: to know you and be loved by you for eternity. Thank you that though you need nothing, you delight in being my Father. Forgive me for the times I have resisted your light, water, and nutrition, trying to grow on my own terms. Tend to my heart like a patient farmer, weeding out the distractions and building me into the exact purpose you designed. Remind me that with you inside me, no problem is too great and the world cannot break me. In Jesus' name, amen.
