How to Learn Who God Is—Moving Beyond Human Comprehension Into His Heart (Part 2)

How to Learn Who God Is

We often find ourselves asking deep, searching questions: Who is this cosmic Deity who exists completely outside of time, created everything, and loves us more than we can ever fully grasp? How powerful is He? Why did He create us?

In asking these things, we try to map out our purpose in this life. Yet so many of these questions feel left unanswered when we look in the wrong place.

1. Sovereign, Personal, and Intentional

God is just as sovereign as He is deeply personal. He is intensely intentional.

When we shift our perspective away from intellectualizing His vastness and instead anchor ourselves in His heart, something miraculous happens: He builds within us a complete peace that surpasses all understanding.

We begin to feel safe not needing to fully comprehend how vast He is, and not needing to measure His infinite power. Because He is beyond the entire comprehension of collective human consciousness, it also brings an empowering realization: there is no way the enemy could ever fully know His glory, either.

The adversary is entirely outmatched. God is creation, God is love, God is power—not merely the essence of these things, but all of them in their absolute entirety. As the vine, Jesus reminds us that we are the branches, and apart from Him, we can do nothing.

2. The Patient Father and the Living Word

We often hear God speak an instruction to us, and then we anxiously seek confirmation over and over again—acting as if His word could somehow become less true than the first time we heard it.

Yet, in His incredible grace, we find even more security because He is so deeply patient. He has infinite ways to confirm His direction to us. Eventually, we arrive at a place of complete, unshakeable conviction.

This is why daily immersion in the Word of God is so vital. He speaks to us through history, through historical events, and through the instructions He gave to the kings of Israel. He truly operates as a loving Father: just as earthly children face loving correction when they disobey or hurt others, our Father guides us back to righteousness.

3. Stepping Out of the Box

Some people look at the gospel and object, saying, "Isn't it narrow-minded to claim that the only way to the Father is through Jesus?"

Consider it this way: If someone were cruel to your child or rejected them entirely, would you want them living in your house? Furthermore, when Jesus—who is not only an extension of the Father, but the entire embodiment of God in human form who left heaven to give the ultimate sacrifice—offers us eternal life, why wouldn't we want to spend eternity anchored in Him?

When we finally stop trying to put God into a neat, human-sized box and instead seek to truly know His heart, that is when we begin to understand who He is.

Amen.

Reflection for Today

Releasing the Need to Figure It Out: Are you exhausting yourself trying to intellectually dissect God's vastness, or are you resting safely in His personal heart?

Recognizing His Patient Confirmations: When God speaks to you, do you trust His voice, or do you constantly demand extra proof out of doubt?

Stepping Out of the Box: Have you stopped trying to confine God to human logic, embracing instead the absolute truth of His love and sacrifice through Jesus?

A Prayer for Today

Father, thank you for the absolute Truth of your Word and the stunning reality of who you are. Forgive me for trying to put you in a human box or demanding to understand your infinite power with my limited mind. Teach me to rest in your heart, trusting your sovereign care and enjoying your incredible patience. Thank you that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that in Him I have complete peace. In Jesus' name, amen.
