Gratitude as an Engine for Change—Stopping the Fight and Starting to Thrive
We have entered into a sacred covenant; we have invited Jesus into our hearts. We are sealed, protected, and loved. But once that foundation is laid, the natural question follows: Now what?
When we immerse ourselves in the Word and get to know His character, we begin to see reflections of our own lives in the pages of Scripture. Perhaps we are facing our own version of Goliath. Yet Jesus, in His way—which is always the absolute best way—doesn't just get us through the crisis; over time, He reveals the depth of who He is.
The radical difference in the Kingdom is that we do not need to strive. He meets us exactly where we are and builds us up from the inside out.
Sometimes, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, God allows us to walk through a trial for a very specific purpose: to bring us to the stunning revelation that a destructive behavior or reaction we were exhibiting was actually influenced by the enemy.
When the Holy Spirit shines His brilliant light into those hidden areas of our hearts, we aren't crushed by condemnation. Instead, we are filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the light He shined.
That gratitude fuels true repentance—not just feeling sorry, but radically turning away from the sin. And when others look at the transformation in our lives and ask, "How did you change? How did you overcome that?" we don't point to our own willpower. We smile and tell them the truth: "I didn't do it. Jesus did it in me."
True transformation begins with a choice.
When we ask Him to do with us whatever He wills, handing over complete and total authority over our existence, we are exercising the ultimate freedom of our free will.
We finally stop fighting against our circumstances, stop wrestling with God, and stop relying on frantic human hustle. And in that exact moment of surrender, the struggle ends, and we finally start thriving.
Praise the Lord for His grace, His patience, and His transforming power. Amen.
Shifting From Striving to Thriving: Are you still trying to white-knuckle your spiritual growth, or are you letting Jesus meet you where you are and build you up?
Gratitude for Correction: When the Holy Spirit exposes an old pattern or an enemy influence in your life, do you react with defensiveness, or with deep gratitude for His illuminating light?
Handing Over the Reins: Have you truly given Jesus complete and total authority over your daily decisions, your future, and your desires?
Father, thank you for the absolute Truth of your Word and the transforming power of your grace. Thank you for meeting me right where I am instead of demanding that I climb a mountain of performance. Shine your light into my heart, and when you reveal areas that need refinement, give me a heart of deep gratitude rather than defensiveness. Today, I surrender complete and total authority over my life to you. Stop my fighting, Lord, and teach me how to thrive in your presence. In Jesus' name, amen.
