Five Things Believers Should Keep Between Themselves and God

Guarding the Secret Place

Walking closely with Jesus requires a deep sense of discernment, not just regarding what we say to the world, but regarding what we choose to keep sacred and protected. There are five specific areas in a believer's life that are meant exclusively for you and God—treasures to be guarded in the secret place rather than broadcasted to everyone around you.

1. Your Finances

When God blesses your financial life, sharing the details can unintentionally invite comparison, jealousy, or resentment from others. Even when people smile with their eyes, feelings of inadequacy can cause them to harbor envy or invite unhealthy competition. Furthermore, Matthew 13:11 reminds us: "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted." Your provision is a sacred stewardship between you and the Provider; it does not need public validation.

2. Your Relocation and Transitions

When God is calling you to change your location or transition into a new season, be careful who you tell. People often project their own fears, doubts, and worldly reasoning onto your calling—and fear is one of the enemy's favorite weapons. When Jesus tells you to make a move that defies human logic, listen to Him only. Every major transition has a vulnerable window between where you are and where you are going. If the enemy intercepts that vision through the discouragement of others, it can lead to hesitation, disobedience, and hopelessness.

3. Your Spiritual Warfare

Not everyone needs to know the intense battles you are fighting behind closed doors. True spiritual discernment knows the vital difference between a genuine, trusted prayer partner and an audience. In many cases, spiritual battles are won much faster and with greater clarity simply because fewer people are involved. Protect your mind and your environment by keeping your private warfare between your knees and the Father.

4. Your Intimacy and Relationship with God

Protect your private walk with God fiercely. Not every sacred encounter needs to be posted, and not every spiritual experience needs to be shared as content. There is an intimate dimension of your faith that belongs solely to you and Him—an echo of the Song of Solomon: "I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine." Remember: Some things with God are not content; they are covenant.

5. Your Testimony

Timing is everything. Jesus frequently instructed His disciples to keep quiet about miracles until the right hour, because a testimony shared prematurely can attract unnecessary opinions, pressure, external interference, and even premature destruction. A testimony is not just evidence that God did something; it is also evidence that you survived a brutal trial. Jesus did not testify while struggling in the pit; He testified from the palace of victory. David did not write his victory psalms while running for his life from Saul in caves; he testified after God fully established him on the throne.

Give God the time to finish authoring your story. Protect your testimony in the incubator of prayer until it has matured, hardened, and is ready to be released with unshakeable power.

Reflection for Today

Guarding Your Blessings: Are you tempted to seek human applause or validation regarding your finances and blessings, or can you rest in God's approval alone?

Discerning Counsel: When God asks you to make a transition, do you run to poll everyone's opinion, or do you stand firm on His direct instruction?

Protecting the Sacred: Which of these five areas do you need to surrender back to the secret place, treating your walk with God as a sacred covenant rather than public information?

Pray with us

Father, thank you for the absolute Truth of your Word and for teaching me the wisdom of the secret place. Forgive me for the times I have opened up sacred areas of my life—my finances, my transitions, my battles, my intimacy with you, and my immature testimonies—to the opinions of the world. Give me the discernment to know what to share and what to guard. Help me to treat my walk with you as a holy covenant, trusting you to finish the work you started in my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
