Waiting for God and Active Preparation
Psalm 27 tells us to wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen our heart. But true biblical waiting is often misunderstood. Waiting on God does not mean passive idleness or sitting back with folded hands.
When the Lord tells you to wait, it means you wait in preparation. You don't just sit around waiting for a random lump sum of money to drop from the sky to pay off your debts.
Look to the wisdom of Proverbs, where Solomon points us to the ant — an insect that prepares its food in the summer and gathers its provisions in the harvest without needing a taskmaster. Preparation requires diligence, intentionality, and action aligned with the Spirit.
Beyond physical preparation, waiting on God means working on your character. It is the vital process of removing all the remaining disobedience within you.
Why is this necessary? Because if God handed you the ultimate blessing while you were still harboring unyielding disobedience, that blessing would actually become harmful to you. He must prepare your spiritual capacity so you can successfully steward and handle the massive blessings He has bestowed upon you.
How do we walk this out practically? One day at a time.
When you wake up, before the noise of the world crowds your mind, you must align with Jesus in prayer and worship. Give Him the first fruits of your day. Surrender your schedule, your worries, and your ambitions to Him. When you do this, you can ask Him for direction, and the Holy Spirit will faithfully guide you step-by-step to where you need to be.
The Waiting Check: Are you treating "waiting on the Lord" as an excuse for passivity, or are you actively engaging in spiritual and character preparation?
The Character Audit: What areas of disobedience or unyielded habits do you need to allow the Holy Spirit to root out today so you can handle the blessings ahead?
The First Fruits: Do you give Jesus the very first moments of your morning, or do you rush into your day relying on your own strength?
"Father, thank you for the absolute Truth of your Word and the wisdom of waiting on you. Forgive me for the times I have treated waiting as laziness or expected blessings without undergoing the necessary preparation. Help me to be like the ant — diligent, focused, and ready. Give me the grace to examine my heart, strip away my disobedience, and refine my character so that I am fully equipped to handle what you have for me. Every morning, let me give you the first fruits of my day. Guide my steps by your Holy Spirit, and make my path straight. In Jesus' name, amen."
