Provoking Spirits and the Heart of Jesus

When the enemy realizes he can no longer penetrate your mind or disrupt your internal peace, he will change his strategy. If he cannot attack you from the inside, he will use external vessels—people he has either oppressed or possessed—to launch an assault.

These provoking spirits will actively try to agitate you. They will attempt to engage you in senseless arguments, perhaps even looking you in the eye and claiming that witchcraft is not evil or that sin is simply a matter of perspective. Their goal is not to seek the Truth; their goal is to ruin your day, drain your energy, and distract you from your Kingdom calling.

But you do not have to fight every battle. When you are anchored in the absolute Truth of Jesus Christ, you recognize the spirit behind the person. You do not need to debate or defend God to those who are determined to mock Him. You can simply pray for them quietly and remove yourself from the situation.

When Jesus lives within you, He fundamentally transforms your nature. When these external attacks happen, something remarkable occurs: instead of feeling personal offense or anger, you feel a profound hurt for the people attacking you.

This is Jesus showing you a glimpse of His own heart. Imagine the immeasurable pain He feels as He looks upon billions of people who turn their backs on Him to follow the devil. He watches as even believers fall into the trap of sin—offering themselves up to the enemy, whether through the slow destruction of habits like smoking as modern “burnt offerings,” or through other compromises. Yet, despite this heartbreak, His patience and His love for humanity remain entirely immeasurable.

The world will tell you to follow your heart and chase whatever brings you pleasure. But just because something feels good does not mean that it is good.

When you align with Jesus, your very nature is reprogrammed by the absolute Truth. The desires of your flesh are replaced by the desires of the Spirit. You will find that the sins and worldly habits that once brought you a fleeting, counterfeit joy will begin to literally repulse you. Your spirit will reject what it once craved. Conversely, the things you once feared—stepping out in faith, facing the unknown, or standing against the enemy’s attacks—won’t be so scary anymore. When you are anchored in Him, His perfect love casts out fear, and His holiness fundamentally changes your appetites.

Jesus Christ is, without question, the greatest thing to ever happen to humanity. He loved us enough to lay down His life, and He loves us enough to continually pursue us even when we are rebellious.

If you are reading this devotional today, take a moment to pause and read it in total gratitude. Fully appreciate the fact that He is actively working on your heart. He is changing your nature in ways you cannot even measure, replacing your worldly reactions with His divine compassion, aligning your desires with His righteousness, and removing your fear.

The Appetite Check: What is a sin or worldly habit that used to bring you “joy” but now repulses you because of your alignment with the Truth?

The Fear Exchange: Notice how the things that used to terrify you have lost their power. Take a moment to thank God for replacing that fear with His unshakeable peace.
