Faith Lives
Hearing God's voice often happens in the most unexpected, everyday moments. Picture walking down the street, wrestling with heavy worries about provision and timing, when suddenly a song on your playlist hits your headphones with lyrics that cut straight through the noise: "Don't worry, payday is just a day away."
A deep, settled peace washes over your spirit, a rush of joy floods your soul, and you can't help but laugh out loud, whispering, "Thank you, Jesus!" In that instant, you realize how silly it is to worry, knowing that the Creator of the universe—the One with endless, infinite creativity—always makes a way.
There is a powerful anthem by the worship supergroup Sons of Sunday called "God Did". It speaks directly to all those times in the past when, as believers, we made it through impossible circumstances completely beyond human understanding. We survived by a thread, and looking back, we think, "Man, if I had faced that on my own, I surely would have perished." But He carried us through every single time.
Consider a practical picture of how we react to life's sudden annoyances versus walking in peace. Imagine a wasp circling frantically around someone's face. Watching them flail is uncomfortable, and if you shout panicked warnings, they panic too—and inevitably get stung anyway.
Now, compare that to walking in the power of prayer. When a trial buzzes around your life, you stay calm. You remember the biblical command: "Be still, and know that I am God." You pray quietly, remaining steady. The wasp whisks around for a few seconds and then goes elsewhere. Everyone wins: the wasp lives, your friend doesn't end up with a giant red lump on their forehead, and you get to consciously participate with God in a quiet, everyday miracle.
God can speak through absolutely anything. He spoke through a donkey to Balaam. He spoke through a burning bush to Moses. He speaks to us through a YouTube video, a television series we happen to be watching, or even a seemingly random license plate number.
Think of Elijah on the mountain: there was great thunder and lightning, but God spoke in a still, small voice.
We are all completely unique creations; He designed every single strand of our DNA with specific intent and meticulous attention. He speaks to us through nature, through the natural intelligence He embedded in creation—such as the evolution of medicine and science to ensure childbirth is no longer a risk of death—and through the deep promptings of the Holy Spirit.
He operates on countless frequencies, and He always makes a way. Trust in Him. It isn't always easy in our human weakness, but that exact space of surrender is where true faith lives.
Recognizing His Voice: Where have you noticed God speaking to you through unexpected everyday moments, lyrics, or signs recently?
Stillness in the Chaos: When life's "wasps" buzz around you, do you panic and react in the flesh, or do you stay still and trust His protection?
Trusting the Maker: Are you leaning into His endless creativity today, trusting that He always makes a way where there seems to be no way?
Father, thank you for the absolute Truth of your Word and for speaking to us across so many frequencies. Forgive me for panicking when worries and trials buzz around my life. Teach me to be still, to listen for your still, small voice, and to trust that you always make a way. Thank you for every time in the past when you brought me through by a thread. Increase my faith, anchor my heart in your peace, and remind me that this is where true faith lives. In Jesus' name, amen.
